Family Leveraging Humanity

“The golden way is to be friends with the world and to regard the whole human family as one.”
– Mahatma Gandhi.

Family is the basic unit of society. When an intimate relationship between a man and a woman has decided to be developed into a more intensified love and commitment, marriage is being taken into action. It is in marriage where family begins to be formed. And this entire process continues as it forms multiple families into a whole community. A single unit can be as essential as the whole for it is in here where the learning and instilling of values starts. As people, we are created to visualize a need to have illustrated models of things that are important to every individual’s life. When all forms of family come together, a strong impact to the world can be expected.

The family has a decisive role having the capacity and responsibility to impact the entire society by its positive example. Love between wife and husband, love for the children and love in instilling and promoting moral values are the important aspects in forming a family. At this point of time, there is a need in spreading a widely felt care and love within a family most especially, love for moral values.

Families living accordingly and with a guided society can be easily seen when everybody is practicing good moral values. The family serves to be a role model within a community demonstrating kindness, morality, faith and ordered freedom which are all necessary for a free and flourishing culture. This simply means that family is the primary educator of the community; teacher serves as secondary. Parents have the responsibility to teach their children every single thing that they need to learn about life most especially the aspect of being humane. A person instilled with goodness right from his very childhood is expected to be a man compassionate with or seeking to promote human welfare.

For the purposes of the community and of the society which incorporates it, the primacy of family is at its utmost concern. Each person is of infinite worth but the basic block of community and of society as a whole is indeed the family. Teaching the children proper morals and inculcate what virtues they may, and the way to live in peace and harmony with others and living in full control of themselves are part of parents’ responsibilities. As far as civilization is concerned, family is an important factor to a continuous flourishing on each country’s culture. Just as what Lee Iacocca said, “No matter what you’ve done for yourself or for humanity, if you can’t look back on having given love and attention to your own family, what have you really accomplished?” Could you apply that to yourself? Try asking yourself what are things that you have done for your family and at the same time for humanity.
