UTROS members and employees partook to enroll on finishing course for Legal transcription. Legal transcription is the act of transcribing any type of legal proceeding from the spoken word into a document format or a printed format. Legal transcriptionists listen to dictated recordings on a headset, using a foot pedal to pause the recording when necessary, and encode the text into a computer. This recordings was made by attorneys, paralegals, and other legal professionals and then legal transcriptionist transcribe them into legal documents. The Center for Knowledge and Advance Training (CKAT) Inc. has partnered with the First Association of Legal Transcriptionist in the Philippines, Inc. (FALTIP) which recently become affiliated with UTROS in Philippines. This can be a good opportunity to have make additional income with their own work schedules when they acquire the quality to become licensed transcriptionist.

This opportunity made a memorable experience aside from the common daily work. It is a great training which allowed participants to develop skill of focus to a great depth because it is not easy to listen with different foreign accent language and translate it into document. Aside from that, we also made friends with different people especially with the government and law firm’s employees.  There are advantages and disadvantages, the only disadvantage is the lack of computer set. You have to bring your own laptop as the training center can only provide few laptop for the whole class which consisted of 30 students per class. Some of the students bring their own laptop per group, so students who can’t bring laptops can use the provided laptop of the training center aside from that issue, the training was well delivered. They also introduced the foot pedal which we used to pause the recording without any hassle. They also provided headsets for the students but most of the time, we have our own earphones which we plugged to the laptop and listen to the recordings. The training also discussed different techniques that we can use while listening to unfamiliar foreign words – that was really helpful guide for the students. They also discussed how you can earn money from the course legal transcription – the major factors to consider whether to accept or reject projects. We enjoyed the training and successfully completed the legal transcription course with the help of our trainers Ms. Marla and Ms. Cecilia Sabas and the opportunity given by TESDA. We are now a proud TESDA LICENSED Legal Transcriptionist!
